The demo for Cult of the Lamb that’s now on Steam gives a good look at what the final game will bring. As a cute little lamb who finds themself tied up and sent to the chopping block, you are instead bestowed the power of immortality. The only catch is that you must indoctrinate followers for the benevolent? deity that saved your tail. To do this you have to fight through several procedurally generated dungeons filled with monsters, riches, and gullible peasants. You then take what you find back to your cult village hidden deep in the woods and get to indoctrinating. You also need to build things to keep your followers happy and healthy. It’s a nice layer on top of the tradition rogue-like formula.

The dungeons are very Binding of Issac, with small random rooms filled with enemies, traps, and sometimes treasure. The combat feels exceptionally well crafted with nice weight to every hit, a variety of weapon types and abilities, along with your standard dodge move. It also has a colorful, well animated art style going for it that’s easy on the eyes.

I can’t wait to see the full game in action, and thankfully I won’t have to wait long because it’s set to launch on August 11th for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch. Stay tuned to Voxel Voice for more on this cute, twisted roguelike base builder coming from Massive Monster and Devolver Digital.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
