Today developer Frogwares announced that their Lovecraft-themed detective game The Sinking City will now  releas on June 27th, 2019. They made this announcement in a video posted to their YouTube channel. In the video, their community manager Sergey Oganesyan said they made the move to put The Sinking City into a less crowded release window. As is stands, March is a busy month with games like Devil May Cry 5, The Division 2, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice all releasing in quick succession. This extra time will also give them an opportunity to put more work into the game.

The Sinking City is one of several Lovecraft-inspired games coming out. It also has a unique twist in that it combines the Sherlock Holmes investigation mechanics the studio is known for, with some survival horror action. It is set in a fictional Massachusetts town that has been flooded by both water and madness. As a private investigator, you are sent in to investigate the flood and discover why it has caused the citizens to lose their minds. All the while you have to fight your own madness and the terrors that lurk in the city. It appears to be a rather ambitious project and a large step forward for the studio.

IGN recently posted a preview of the game and appeared to be impressed. Here’s hoping the additional months of development will allow The Sinking City to rise to the surface.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
