Black Skylands launched into Early Access on July 9th and I can say that it’s in a really good state right out the gate. It features a decent amount of content for an early access game, and I ran into only minor bugs.

It’s a pretty ambitious game featuring a large open world that you explore with a customizable air ship. It not only features air ship combat, but also fast-paced twin-stick on foot shooting reminiscent of Hotline Miami. The main story has you liberating floating islands from a tyrannical military force while uncovering the truth about the Swarm, evil other worldly beings. It opens with a solid story-based tutorial that get you right into the action while also establishing a cast of compelling characters. As you progress and liberate more people you gain access to more buildings and perks you can unlock at you home base.

There’s definitely more going on in the world of Black Skylands than meets the eye and I’m excited to see where Hungry Couch takes it from here.

Black Skylands is currently in early access on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
