Today Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb announced the February crop of Games With Gold. Two indie games, Project CARS and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, highlight the Xbox One offerings.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime will be available to download from February 1st through February 28th. In it, you take command of an unusual space craft that is somewhat unruly to control. In fact, the only way to truly be successful is to get a co-op partner into the mix. Communication is key as you scramble to man each station inside the craft at the appropriate time to make it through each level. You can get up to four players involved for some chaotic co-op action. It also features a beautiful art style and easy to understand controls, making it a great way to spend time with friends and family.

Project CARS.

Starting February 16th, Project CARS will be added to the list of free games. Winner of several awards, Project CARS is a pure racing simulation. You can take control of a variety of real-world cars and visit famous tracks from all over the globe. You can also take your skills online to complete against other players, or keep is solo with a Career Mode. Project CARS is a fast and furious experience that’s sure to please any racing fan. It will available for free until March 15th.

In addition to Project CARS and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, there will also be two Xbox 360 titles being offered. Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will available from February 1st through the 16th, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will available from the 16th to the 28th. As with all Xbox 360 titles being offered under the Games With Gold program, these titles can also be played on an Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
