The Pathless was announced at The Game Awards and is Giant Squid’s follow up to ABZU. Drifting ashore on a mysterious island, a masked woman finds a forest world overtaken by corruption. Not much else is revealed about the story, just that you are clearly there to cleans the evil from the land.

What’s most interesting, however, is how this game differs from Giant Squid’s debut title. While ABZU was primarily a viewing experience, The Pathless appears to have much more interactivity and even combat. The trailer shows the mysterious woman running, gliding, and firing arrows at objects as well as large, dangerous creatures. Exactly what it all means and why she’s doing what she’s doing is still a secret, and considering the way ABZU unfolded, we may never truly know all the answers.

The Pathless is being published by Annapurna Interactive, who had a pretty big presence at The Game Awards. Not only did they have several games nominated for awards (with Florence winning best mobile game), but they also had a hand full of announcements. You can also add The Pathless to the ever growing list of games coming to the Epic Games Store.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
