New Yooka-Laylee Trailer Shows Off Four Player Co-Op Mode

Playtonic Games released a new multiplayer trailer for their highly-anticipated 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee. Coined the “Yooka-Laylee’s Mega Multiplayer Arcade Mini Games“, it features eight local multiplayer modes for you to tackle alone or with up to four friends.

Kart racing, capture the flag, and an obstacle course will be among the games available at launch. Solo players can also look forward to climbing online leaderboards. This is obviously a throwback to Banjo-Tooie, which featured a similar four player mini-game mode.

Furthermore, you and one other player can play the entire campaign co-op. Your friend can take control of Bee Team, responsible for helping to collect feathers and powerups. Being able to team up with someone for the entirely of the single-player campaign is a departure from the source material, however. It looks like a fun way to allow two people to experience Yooka-Laylee‘s story together, without impacting those who want a purely solo experience.

Take a look at the multiplayer announcement trailer below and read the official press release for more information on Yooka-Laylee and its multiplayer offerings. Also, keep an eye on Voxel Voice for more on Yooka-Laylee as its April 11th release date approaches.

LOS ANGELES – 19th January 2017 – Award-winning international games label Team17 and Playtonic Games, the UK studio formed by veterans of the platforming genre, today released a new gameplay trailer showcasing a variety of exciting local multiplayer arcade games that will feature in Yooka-Laylee when it launches on the 11th April.

Yooka-Laylee features 8 unique multiplayer arcade games which can be found in dated dino Rextro’s Arcade. Players are able to tackle all of the games solo in a bid for a high score on the leaderboards, or they can engage in local couch co-op for up to four players!

Compete in the Glaciators brawler arena to collect the most quills, race to the finish line in Kartos Karting, fight for the flag in Blag the Flag, blast away the enemies in shoot-em-up Gun-let Run and traverse both Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx, plus more! These are just some of the exciting games you can expect to find in Rextro’s Arcade.

Word has it that those who are able to find and collect the special play coins within Yooka-Laylee’s extensive single player campaign will even be able to power up the arcade cabinets located within the mysterious book worlds for a chance to win some sought-after pagies!

As well as the local multiplayer arcade games, Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to co-star in the main Yooka-Laylee adventure. Simply connect an additional controller to buddy up! Taking control of the Bee Team, the second player will able to grab quills and collect and store butterflies for when Yooka and Laylee are really in need of health or energy boost. They can even stop some traps to help the player traverse past particularly tricky obstacles!

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
