After years of development, D-Pad Studio’s Owlboy finally launched on PC last year to critical acclaim. Since then, little has been said about the game outside of a possible Nintendo Switch release. Today, on the one year anniversary of the game’s launch, SOEDESCO announced that a physical version of the game will soon be available. Unfortunately, no release date or platforms were given in the announcement, but we can hope that the previously mentioned Switch version is among the platforms.

Back when Owlboy launched, the conversation was just as much about the storied development as it was the quality of the game. Combining traditional platforming with some metroidvania elements, and character development usually reserved for RPGs, it stood out as great playing game with an interesting story. I even wrote about how well the game handles in characters.

With the game’s stand out retro-inspired art style a physical edition should look well on any one’s shelf.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
