With the October 25th release date of Farming Simulator 2017 quickly approaching, the folks over at GIANTS Software have announced that mods will be available on every version of the game starting at launch. Previously, mods have been limited to the PC version of Farming Simulator, but now they will be available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, in addition to the PC and Mac versions. This is good news for console players who want to engage with the very active Farming Simulator modding community.

Mods on consoles will be curated and tested to ensure they meet console standards before being made available, this will ensure a high level of quality and compatibly. No indication of whether or not you will be able to make mods on consoles, however. GIANTS Software’s Thomas Frey has more to explain below:

“This year, with the support of Sony and Microsoft, we will be able to provide a selection of the best mods created by the PC community, and port them to Consoles. These mods will be checked internally before being released in order to meet all of the necessary Console requirements. If PC players benefit from a larger quantity of mods, Console players will be able to continuously enjoy new mods released regularly for free. These mods will guarantee an optimal and renewed gaming experience for all Farming Simulator 17 players.” – Thomas Frey, GIANTS Software

It’s exciting to see this generation of consoles get access to mod support, something that had been previously limited to PC players. It’s a great way to expand the value of a game beyond it’s original form, and have fun doing it. By curating the mods and ensuring a level quality, GIANTS Software is making sure that you can safely modify your game without the risks that can come with unregulated tampering.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. and Metroid on the NES with my older brother, and never being able to land on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun. I faked being sick so I could stay home from school and play Quake II once, but now I request days off from work instead of lying. Age of Empires II is still the best RTS, Half-Life is still the best FPS, and I still think the end of Mass Effect 3 was great!
