Two days ago, Wired Productions, the independent games publisher and co-publisher behind The Town of Light, announced the start of a year-long campaign to help raise awareness and bring ongoing attention to the importance of mental health issues. Today, alongside Developer LKA, they are proud to release a complimentary demo for the first-person psychological adventure game, The Town of Light, available now on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Played through the fictional eyes of Renée, a 16-year-old girl who suffers from the symptoms of mental illness, players must search for answers to the many questions from her past while exploring and uncovering the place where she spent most of her youth. What happens next is a dark and emotional journey where the lines of interactive entertainment, storytelling and reality frequently tend to blur.

PlayStation®4 and Xbox One players will be able to briefly delve into the inner workings of Renée’s mind as she revisits the real-life location of Ospedale Psichiatrico di Volterra – a genuine asylum in Italy that closed in the 1970s due to a law that instructed all asylums to close completely and give back patients their civil rights.

“Mental health is a current issue that should be raised to understand further, and we’re pleased to do our part by offering a teaser of The Town of Light to raise awareness of the struggles of real people,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director of Wired Productions. “We hope gamers take the opportunity to get their hands on the demo, and then eagerly look to finish the journey that they started, in the full game.”

The Town of Light was developed by LKA and co-published with Wired Productions. It is currently available now on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC for $19.99.

Over the course of the next year, Wired Productions will embark on a series of activities, including an initiative that will gift a percentage of sales from The Town of Light to further mental health awareness. This is being undertaken in partnership with TakeThis, Inc, a non-profit charity that seeks to inform communities about mental health issues to provide education about various mental health disorders and to reduce the stigma often associated with mental illness. So, check out the free demo and help bring awareness to the struggles real people face everyday while battling mental health issues.
